We have featured wallets that are made from unusual (for a wallet that is) material like Tyvek, paper and bamboo and we have always been fascinated by how designers come up with great wallet designs using such unique materials. That is why when Foad Manshadi of Comfy Goods contacted us to tell us about his Kickstarter project, the Guru Cork Wallet that uses cork fabric, we were definitely intrigued.
We have to admit that we have never heard of cork fabric before this. Cork fabric or cork leather as it is also known by, is a special material made from cork shavings. Cork fabric is rather unique because it combines the durability of leather with the versatility of fabric. It is also waterproof and stain resistant which makes it a great environmentally friendly replacement for leather. We also think that the texture and natural pattern on the material is rather distinctive.
The Guru Cork Wallet measures 2.6 inches by 3.5 inches and has an outer layer that is made from cork fabric. The cork fabric layer is hand sewn using waxed thread and riveted to an inner elastic pocket. The elastic slot can carry up to 12 cards or you can carry a combination of cards and folded cash. The outer layer between the elastic pocket and the cork fabric layer creates an additional 2 slots for you to organize your wallet.
The cork fabric material comes in 3 colors. The coloring is dyed and not printed on the fabric which makes it more lasting. Additional colors are available as stretch goals for the Kickstarter project.
