The Ainste Evan Wallet is a hybrid between a leather wallet and the double plate with an elastic band minimalist wallet design. For those who like the design philosophy of the two plate wallet but prefer the look and feel of leather, the Evan Wallet by Ainste might be exactly what they are looking for.
Instead of 2 metal plates, the Evan Wallet has a single piece of folded leather that is held close with an elastic band. The leather portion of it looks very high quality with a nice texture and elegant stitching. The textured exterior makes the wallet highly scratch resistant. The texture surface also adds a little friction and acts like an anti-slip pad making it possible to place the Evan Wallet on the dashboard of a moving car without it slipping off.
Cards, bills and receipts can be stored either on the inside of the wallet or strapped to the band on the outside. The standard practice is to put items that are frequently used like your favorite credit card or your metro pass on the outside. Since it uses an elastic band design, you can store quite a lot in the Evan Wallet. You can easily squeeze in 16 cards into the Evan Wallet although you will end up with quite a bulky wallet which defeats the main purpose of switching to a minimalist wallet. Ainste recommends a maximum of 6 cards to maintain the wallet’s slim profile.
The Ainste Evan Wallet was successfully funded on Kickstarter in early 2013. Besides the standard Evan Wallet, Ainste also has a mini version of the Evan Wallet that is more suitable for holding cards plus a few other wallet designs as well. You can find the Evan Wallet and all the other designs on the Ainste website.
